Talent Actor Rates and Casting Real People

Talent Actor Rates and Casting Real People

blog casting possible 3 800 x 500

We have had great success this season in negotiating competitive but fair talent actor rates based on the merits of each project. Because we have also seen a huge increase in the need to cast “real” people – from Mark Zibert’s Right to Play and Angie Bird’s “Plan” to Discovery TRVLR, John Hillcoat’s “Ancestry” and “Toyota” and Theresa Wingert’s “Sargento”. In most cases, we’ve brought in our own researchers to work alongside our production teams and casting directors, finding representatives from diverse communities and nationalities and looking for real stories.  We cast in Johannesburg and Cape Town and have established connections with local communities from Chinese and Syrian to the modern-day members of the San and the Ghanaian Ashanti Tribe with the goal of paying respectable actor rates.

Formula 1 comes to Cape Town

blog formula 2 800 x 500 1

The Moonsport guys just had one epic weekend doing a formula 1 film, being involved with the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Event with David Coulthard and the RB7 as well as with Virgin Active for their Global Grid Games 2019 finals.

They produced the Red Bull formula 1 film commercial on Saturday for Red Bulls local agency Iconic, closing major roads throughout the City of Cape Town (big thanks to the City of Cape Town) as well as working with Red Bulls eventing team in curating and directing live event that had David Coulthard doing donuts outside City Hall and the Red Bull Planes doing stunts above.

View the final commercial here:

Meanwhile, they scripted, produced and ran the Virgin Active Grid Games final event presentation & streamed a 5 hour multi platform live stream production, which marked the end of the 5 month digital stratergy develop by Moonsport for Virgin Active. More commercial productions finding value in Cape Town Film Studios

More commercial productions finding value in Cape Town Film Studios

studios article ctfs car 800 x 402 crop 1

One of the unexpected advantages of having the Cape Town Film Studio on our doorstep is the value that it adds to the Commercials Industry.

While it is obvious that vast studios are a requirement of long form production, it is in the backlots that commercials production service companies are finding great value.  The cape town film studio was established 15 years ago and the feature film and TV series art departments have slowly added exterior sets some of which are taken over by the studio, stabilized for the longer term and made available to smaller productions.  Our recent productions on these backlots have included a beach, marketplace, war zone, a castle, a musical,  a cherry orchard in full blossom and huge green screen production. Scoll down to the images below to see a few of these.

It has been a while since the natural transition of South Africa morphing from a location only destination to one where visiting filmmakers take advantage of the extremely high levels of all production year round.  cape town film studio has been the happy recipient of scores of Hollywood and independent productions that invariably leave well trained crews, new equipment and rigging ideas.   We are currently in what Capetonians call the “secret season” (May and June) where the weather is milder, the rain has not yet started, the tourist trade has slowed, and crews are better rested.

2018/19 has been a good season.

The water problem of the previous year was not repeated and numbers are back where they should be.  We are looking forward to the final wraps of the jobs done, some holiday time , the visits north  to Cannes and other destinations and thanks to all who shared Cape Town with us this summer.

Marcus Svanberg’s “Apoteket – Outbreak”

Marcus Svanberg’s “Apoteket – Outbreak”

This has to be our favourite Apoteket ad ever! Brilliantly shot by Marcus Svanberg and Bleck for Forsman & Bodenfors, “Outbreak” channels a walking dead apocalypse as an allergy outbreak turns city dwellers into Zombies (all cast in Cape Town).

In the spot, people stumble around like zombies in a city with red eyes and pained expressions, causing chaos and destruction in the well-known style of a zombie horror flick. Luckily, a pharmacist (played by Swedish singer/actress Janna) is on hand to explain that it’s pollen allergy time, and people need to find the right meds. She comes to the rescue of the zombies and opens the store to the threatening crowds outside.

According to the agency (as quoted in AdAge), the full version of the zombie film was deemed too scary for Swedish television, so a less frightening zombie version of the pollen allergy season was created for day time TV.

We’re super-proud to have been part of this fun project.
